Oxytetracycline HCL Injection 20%

Oxytetracycline Hydrochloride 200 mg

For the treatment of infections caused by oxytetracycline-sensitive organisms in cattle, swine, sheep, and goats.

Examples include: respiratory infections (e.g., shipping fever), foot rot, metritis, and other bacterial diseases.

Route: Intramuscular or Subcutaneous injection. Intravenous administration may be recommended by a veterinarian in severe cases.

Dosage: The dosage is based on body weight.

Cattle, Swine, Sheep, Goats: 3 - 5 mg of oxytetracycline per pound of body weight (equivalent to 6.6 - 11 mg/kg), administered once daily.

Practical Calculation: For the 20% solution (200 mg/ml), this is approximately 1 ml per 40 - 65 lbs (18 - 30 kg) of body weight.

1.Inject deeply into the muscle or under the skin.

2.To minimize local tissue reaction, administer slowly and vary the injection site for subsequent doses.

3.Treatment should be continued for 24-48 hours after symptoms have subsided.

• Do not use in animals with known hypersensitivity to tetracycline antibiotics.
• Do not administer to animals with severe liver or kidney impairment.

2.Warning: Not for use in laying hens or in animals intended for breeding purposes due to the potential for reproductive effects.

3.Injection may cause local tissue irritation (pain, swelling, or necrosis at the injection site).

4.Use with caution in animals with pre-existing kidney dysfunction, as tetracyclines may increase nitrogen retention.

5.The use of antibiotics may result in the overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms (e.g., fungi). If new infections appear, discontinue use and institute appropriate therapy.

• Anaphylactic reactions have been reported. Have epinephrine available for emergency use.
• In ruminants, rapid intravenous injection may cause cardiovascular collapse.

Withdrawal Period (Meat):

It is imperative to observe the following withdrawal times to prevent illegal drug residues in food:

Cattle: 28 days after last injection.

Swine: 26 days after last injection.

Sheep & Goats: 18 days after last injection.

• Milk must not be used for human consumption during treatment and for at least 96 hours (4 days) after the last injection.

 Store in a cool, dark place, protected from light.

Do not freeze.

The solution may darken with age without affecting potency. However, do not use if a precipitate forms or if the solution becomes cloudy.
