Pharmacological Action

Levamisole hydrochloride is an anthelmintic of the imidazothiazole class. It acts as a nicotinic acetylcholine receptor agonist, causing persistent muscle stimulation and paralysis in susceptible nematodes, ultimately leading to their expulsion. It is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract after oral administration and is distributed throughout the body, reaching peak plasma concentration within 2 hours. It is mainly excreted via the kidneys.

Indications and Uses

Anthelmintic drug. Used for the treatment of gastrointestinal nematode infections and lungworm infestations in pigs, sheep, goats, and cattle. Also effective in poultry against Ascaridia galli and other roundworms.

Dosage and Administration(based on this product)

In drinking water
For poultry: 1.5–2.0g per 1L of water, administered for 1 day.
For pigs: 1.0g per 1L of water, administered for 1 day.

Oral administration
Daily dose: 7.5 mg of levamisole hydrochloride per kg of body weight (i.e., 0.038 g of this product per kg of body weight), administered once. May be repeated as necessary under veterinary guidance.

Adverse Reactions

Possible mild salivation, vomiting, or restlessness may occur after overdosing. Usually self-limiting and mild.

Precautions

1.Do not use in animals with severe liver or kidney dysfunction.
2.Avoid concurrent use with organophosphates or cholinesterase inhibitors.
3.Use with caution in debilitated or stressed animals.
