Florfenicol is a broad-spectrum antibiotic belonging to the amide class. It is a bacteriostatic agent with strong antibacterial activity against a variety of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Hemolytic Pasteurella multocida, Pasteurella multocida, and Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae are highly sensitive to florfenicol. In vitro, florfenicol's antibacterial activity against many microorganisms is similar to or stronger than that of thiamphenicol. Some bacteria resistant to amide-alcohols due to acetylation, such as Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae, may still be sensitive to florfenicol. It is mainly used for bacterial diseases in pigs, chickens, and fish caused by susceptible bacteria, such as respiratory diseases in cattle and pigs caused by hemolytic Pasteurella multocida, Pasteurella multocida, and Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae. It is also used for typhoid and paratyphoid fever caused by Salmonella, fowl cholera, pullorum disease, and Escherichia coli infection; and bacterial septicemia, enteritis, and red spot disease in fish caused by Pasteurella multocida, Vibrio, Staphylococcus aureus, Hydrophila, and Enterobacteriaceae. Pharmacokinetics: Florfenicol is rapidly absorbed orally, reaching therapeutic concentrations in the blood in approximately 1 hour, and peak plasma concentrations are reached within 1–3 hours. Bioavailability exceeds 80%. Florfenicol is widely distributed in the animal body and can cross the blood-brain barrier. It is primarily excreted unchanged in the urine, with a small amount excreted in the feces.
Drug Interactions
(1)Macrolides and lincosamides have the same target as this product, which is to bind to the 50S subunit of bacterial ribosomes. When used together, they may produce antagonistic effects.
(2)They may antagonize the bactericidal activity of penicillin or aminoglycoside drugs, but this has not been proven in animals.
Dosage and Administration
Based on this product. For internal use: 0.1-0.15g per kg body weight for pigs and chickens, twice a day for 3-5 days; 50-75mg per kg body weight for fish, once a day for 3-5 days.
Precautions:
(1) Chickens laying eggs for human consumption should not use this product during their egg-laying period.
(2) Use with caution in breeding chickens. It has embryotoxicity; use with caution in pregnant and lactating livestock.
(3) Contraindicated in animals during vaccination periods or with severely compromised immune function.
(4) Animals with renal insufficiency should have their dosage appropriately reduced or the dosing interval extended.
